Art Rocks The Carnegie

Art rocked the Carnegie Library on the morning of March 14 as over sixty people of all ages met – and painted – about one hundred and fifty rocks.
The event was a combined Albany Public Library Foundation and Library Super-Saturday event with the Foundation providing the (prepared) rocks, paints, markers, brushes and other applicators as well items like google eyes to glue onto the rocks and, of course, clean-up materials, table covers, and old shirts to protect the artists’ clothes. Expertise in the form of veteran rock painter Paul Jacobs was also provided.
Paul prepared the rock horde with colors – orange, black, white, red and more – on which the artists could do their work.
Paul also donated the paints and markers to the Foundation and there are enough materials left over – despite the heroic efforts of the participants – to supply another art rocking session in the future.
The results were astounding – a variety of abstract and realistic forms in bright colors that, by this time, are adorning gardens and windowsills and tabletops all over Albany.
The participants ranged from little youngsters who barely peeked over the tabletops to people well into their eighties. A side benefit of the event was that it introduced a number of first time visitors to the Carnegie and to its beautiful children’s library and stage. They will be back.
The next Foundation event is projected to be a special story time followed by a free book exchange of children’s and tweens’ books.
