Book Swap Day At The Carnegie

Lots and lots and lots of books found new homes during the course of the May 2nd book swap meet for kids’ books and tween books at the Carnegie.
Harry Potter was there and Star Wars were there (on paper anyway) along with a wide variety of new and old, true and fantasy characters and stories now being enjoyed by new owners.
The free book swap was organized by the Albany Public Library Foundation. Thanks to pre-swap donations, three table-tops of books were set out downstairs in the Carnegie before the first family group arrived. Given the number of books available, the rules were loosened to allow unchecked takings to the delight of the participants.
Books were added as books were subtracted and there were still some books left at the end of the event. Those books were donated to the library for use in the summer reading program and/or the Friends of the Library bookshop.
The next participatory event at the Carnegie will be a musical instrument petting zoo that will allow people of all ages to freely try out stringed instruments and percussion instruments and keyboards. The event, which is co-sponsored by the Foundation and the Albany Youth Orchestra, is scheduled for 11:00 am to 12:30, Saturday, July 11, 2026 at the Carnegie (302 SW Ferry). A preview will be put on at the Albany Farmers’ Market of June 20, 2026, from 9 am to 1 pm.
