Fallen Leaves Are Given Colorful New Lives At The Carnegie Library

The leaf printing workshop at the Carnegie Library on Saturday, October 25 was a rousing success as more than forty participants brought a diverse bundle of fallen leaves back to life in works of art.
The leaf printing event was presented by the Albany Public Library Foundation as part of its Autumn Arts program at the Carnegie. Which will also include a card making workshop, and a Christmas parlor tour.
The leaf printing was supervised by Cheryl French assisted by two Foundation Board members and two neighbors of the library. The process begins with inking a background plate and then putting ink on the chosen leaves or shapes. The inked items are place carefully (inked side up) on the background plate and then covered with a sheet of slightly damp paper. The creating artist then runs the creation through the hand-turned drum press – across once and back once. At that point, the print is ready to remove from the press. Each resulting print is still a bit damp but dries completely within a day.
A variety of colors was available. The prints that the participants created ranged from the subtle to the exuberant – but all looked good and all were appreciated.
Next up is a holiday card making session on Saturday, November 22, 11:00 am to 12:30 pm downstairs at the Carnegie. It is free and open to all ages with all the necessary materials provided. (302 Ferry Street SW).
