The First Step

A three person architect/designer/builder team came to the Carnegie Library on Wednesday, August 12 in what, hopefully, is the first step of a journey toward increased accessibility for the beautiful old library.

The Albany Public Library Foundation arranged for the visit/tour with the help of Eric Ikenouye and the library staff.

The short term goal is the development of a formal recommendation for increasing accessibility.  Nothing is ruled out at this point.  The recommendation should also come with an estimated cost.

The team looked the building over carefully inside and out, peering into offices and closets and storage rooms as well as the bigger rooms with books and other materials.

The original plans and architectural drawings made later were laid out on one the upstairs tables to be examined in detail.  Copies of some of the plans were made later and sent to the head of the team.

It is a first step that, hopefully, will lead us to a more accessible historic Carnegie library that all can enjoy for decades to come.
