Saturday Sculpting at the Carnegie

By John Byrne –
The Albany Public Library Foundation presented a very successful Saturday Sculpting session at the Carnegie from 11:00 to 12:30, Saturday, August 16, 2025.
About 55 (or more) participants, assisted by five Foundation volunteers, created a host of animate and inanimate objects in soft, colorful clay. Tropical birds, cows, tigers, cars, snakes, turtles and rainbows were among the creations.
The participants benefited from a short intro by Cheryl French, a local artist, about the medium and the possibilities. The participants – both young and old – then headed to tables (all carefully covered) upstairs and downstairs in the Carnegie. All the clay, tools, and advice they needed was freely provided. The volunteers circulated around making sure everyone had everything they needed.
The soft clay creations can be baked (carefully – instructions provided) at home to harden them.
Saturday Sculpting was the third of the four programs in the August Arts series organized, paid for, and presented by the Foundation. The fourth and (sadly) the last of this series will be on Saturday, August 23rd (11:00 – 12:00) and will feature the Albany Youth Orchestra for a short performance followed by hands-on introductions to the string instruments.
